We were assigned to the Krasnodar Region in Russia. Krasnodar was originally named Ekaterinodar after Catherine the great which meant "Catherine's Gift". After the Russian revolution in 1917 the name was changed to Krasnodar which means "beautiful gift". I found this to be a sweet reminder and quite encouraging. Sasha is a beautiful gift that God created in His own image. A child He created knowing that we would be her parents.

A home for the holidays

Christmas was difficult this year knowing our little one was spending the holidays away from home and his/her family.  We enjoyed celebrating the birth of Jesus with family and friends yet we did that with a heaviness in our hearts.  This was really the first time we experienced the emptiness and heartache that goes along with the uncertainty that adoption brings.  At this point in the the process we know he/she is born and probably between the age of 1 and 2.  Definitely old enough to be experiencing Christmas but probably not the type of Christmas we would want for our child.  Knowing he/she is out there somewhere brought many tears as we celebrated the holiday season this year.  As the year comes to a closee we are left with the  hope that next year our little one will have a home for the holidays.

  1. Jenny and Matt - the holidays are filled with expectations, excitement and extremes for everyone - but when you add adoption to the mix, it can become overwhelming. We know - we have been there. I can still remember the heartache of Christmas 2005 thinking we would be celebrating the placement of a child in our arms on December 6th of that year. That dream was shattered by a changed of heart by the birth family. Then on Mother's Day 2006 - not knowing if, or when, we would be blessed with a child. Just realize that it is a Grand Canyon size void that no child can fill - only the Lord's grace and mercy - so hold fast to that Truth. May you soon experience the overwhelming breathlessness of THAT phone call. It will change your lives forever! Enjoy the quiet and down time now...it will soon be gone and you will become an official member of the sleep deprived new parents club!

    Praying and waiting with you!
